Thanks again to all in helping me get my Farmall M in shape. I want to plant (oats likely), this spring on ground with rocks some of which are large enough that they won't move if not seen and run over. They are mostly rounded. I am thinking I need an old pull type tandam disc or disc plow rather than a three point implement or a wheel disc that is fairly rigid. I have a three point on the M. Any suggested would be appreciated.

How hard is your soil ? Do you need tillage ? Are the rocks so big that you can't pick them ? If so, avoid them. Is your topsoil really thin ? How much weed pressure do you have in the field ?

If the weed pressure is high, and you are not growing organically, you might considder a couple passes with roundup and go with the oats next year. Otherwise, oats can go in early - frost seed them, and they should be up and growing ahead of the weeds. Combine them when they are just ready so the weeds don't have time to come through.

Riverbend, thanks for the questions and suggestions. I realize an answer would require a lot of background to be fairly answered and a little astray of the forum. I won't be living on the property for a couple of years but will spend time there. I am just anxiously sitting here in the city planning for spring and beyond. I will ask a neighbor there who farmed it once for his thoughts.
