I have a 54 to 56 Farmall 300 TA with a C169 engine that is extremly tired, burns oils ect. time for an overhaul. Although i have built race cars for years i have never done a complete overhaul, i have however replaced cams, heads, adjusted valves, and many other rnr type projects mostly on 350 cids so i am somewhat mechanicly inclined and don't think this is a very complicated engine but i would appreciate any advice that anyone would offer before i undertake this project. i know this site sell manuals and videos that I have considered and any guidence in that area would be appreciated as well. Thanks all

Rick check out my web site. Click on the Farmall 300 page link.
Not a complete engine rebuild but at least you will know what your looking at.
Oh and dont take any thing you see on my site as Gospel. I really dont have a clue what I am doing, but am not afarid to just jump in with both feet and figure it out as I go.

Can't help you a whole lot with the advice for rebuilding the engine, but if you're somewhat mechanically inclined and understand the basic parts of an engine, then you're 95% of the way there. The rest is just making sure the tolerances are within specifications, and most of that will be handled by the machine shop where you take the crank, cam, and head to have them checked out, ground, rebuilt as appropriate.

Seems you're new to Farmalls. Unless the serial number tag has been ripped off, it's on the bell housing at the rear of the engine. You can use the serial number to find out the exact year of the tractor.

Sorry, I spazzed out and didn't finish...

The serial number list is linked on the left of this web page.

The other thing is that your tractor is simply a 300, not a "300 TA." By the time the 300s came out, they didn't differentiate between TA and non-TA models. It was an option, just like air conditioning and power windows on a car.
