F-20 Tires

Hello,

Just looking for some opinions on what the best tires for my F-20 are. I have 24" spoked rims. I believe consensus in the past have been on 14.9"s. What is the best looking brand of tire for this tractor and rim?

Tony, Perhaps this is off key, but many tractors had 36's or 40's. The reason is they would go narrower--by going over the brake drum with the larger tires they could do just that. If it has cut offs (cut down steel wheels) you had options when welding the rims on. Many times I understand the blacksmith had his reasons, and avalability had a big influance as well. Dave NE IA

Here is a chart that shows the conversions. The original sizes for the years the F Series were produced are on the far left. To day's sizes are on the far right. I know there is a lot of confusion on this matter and I have read some great posts by some tire engineers that confirm the chart. For example, an original 10.00 is now a 13.9, as an original 12.75 is now a 16.9.

Anyone have pictures they can post of their tractors with 24" rims and their tire size?

The tires that are on it now, which may be original since this tractor has not been driven in 50 years, are 12.75-24, which translates to 16.9-24 in today's size convention. I like the look of the ones that are on it so I doubt I'd want to go skinnier than 14.9. I was thinking about the 16.9, but everyone seems to think that is too wide.

These were on my rims when I got them...13.75 or 14.?, I can't remember which.

I just bought a set of Firestone 11.2-24's for my Regular on round spokes. I'll try to get you a picture tomorrow, I think they are just the right size, not too wide, and not too narrow like the 9.25-40's on the F-12. my opinion...Kevin

I think that 11.2 look better than the 14.9...those are pretty wide, and I believe most of the F-20s originally came out w/ 10" (current 11.2) or smaller tires...the narrow tires look better...s'pose it depends though on if you intend to drive it in a muddy cow lot...then the 14.9s might be okay...

My Dad said the 11-36 tires currently on my F-20 are the same tires he bought for it in 1938 (Yes, they are weather checked severely) He originally bought The F-20 on steel because he was concerned that the rubber would "poison" the ground.
