I couldn't imagine that a ram could destroy it's self. I was using my box scraper and put too much down force I guess, (enough to start lifting rear of the tractor) and POW the end of the ram that attaches to the tractor broke in half. Parts hit my leg and what a surprise. Well what next, buy a new ram or can just the part that broke be replaced? Any comments?

Joe I agree with others here. We welded many celvis back onto rams at the shop. About 90% were sucsessful. Its worth the try and good luck.

Take it to a professional welder and see if it can be fixed. Most will assess the damage and tell you yay or nay for free. If it can be repaired, welding will be loads cheaper than replacing it, and a whole lot quicker than running from junkyard to junkyard trying to find the part, as I'm sure CaseIH doesn't stock it anymore.

We (my dad's design) lifted a V snowplow with downforce on the two point pivoted under the rear axles and extending under the front axle of a 350ute. We still have the 350, but the plow was worked to scrap. Probably near 3000 pounds of down on the hitch with out problems. The ram is probably weaker from wear at the lower casting. The ram also pulls less than it pushes due to the cross section of the ram shaft on that end.
I think it will fix well if prepped and "V"ed out.

Roland You need to remember you have an old tractor. We use to use the fast hitch to slide the rear wheels on 460 560 all the time.

Jeff, I just purchased a 300 utility. I notice that in the past, the ram was broken and welded on my tractor"s three point. Maybe I will need to be careful...my I like the idea of pressure down on the three point. I am thinking I will keep this tractor...

Thanks for your comments. I will try to find one of the broken parts (it fell deep into the mud I was scraping) and try the welding method. Thanks again, Joe
