M carb trouble?

I recently used my M outfitted with a three point hitch to move some round bales. I used the tractor for several hours, starting and stopping it. Toward the end of the day the tractor would only run a few minutes and then would starve for fuel. I would let it sit and it would run fine a few minutes then starve for fuel. I ordered a carb rebuild kit online which came with a float valve and a few o rings. Now the M only runs for about a minute then dies. Any ideas how to diagnose this monster?

Either one of the other 2 guys could be right. Lets start this way. First remove the sediment bowl, open up the gas shut off, do you get a good flow of gas that way?? If so then put bowl back on and romove the line at the carb, turn gas back on, do you get a good flow?? If yes then your problem is in the carb, if no on the other 2 places your problem is in the line or tank.

would good flow from either be indicated by a drip-drip or would it flow out steadily as if pouring out of a drinking straw?

Flow should be like when you go pee, about as big and steady.

haha, good analogy. I definetly have something blocking the flow somewhere. I removed the line from the carb and it only drips, so I removed the sediment bowl and it only drips from there. Is there a way to remove the shut off valve from the bottom of the tank or is it welded on there?

First thing I would do before unscrewing the sediment bowl assembly is to, bolw compressed air in to the line form where you took it off the carb. Take the gas cap off when doing so. After you blow air in let it then run out. If it flows good you may get by for a few days, but at leastthen you can drain the tank so you don't have gas all over from removeing the sediment bowl.

You have junk plugen the inlet of the sediment bowl and more then likely it is not a carb problem , i have found everything under the sun plugen the inlet so i would drain the gas out of the tank and pull the sediment bowl out and clean the tank .and work my way down to the carb first.

Remove drain plug on bottom of carburetor and check for adequate fuel delivery. If there is no drain plug, crack the fuel line where it enters the carb to check for adequate fuel flow. If fuel flows freely, check carb inlet screen where fuel line enters carb. If no problem is found, The needle & seat/float could be causing trouble. Also try opening the load jet 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
