I've got a '40 H.....it appears to have the original radiator, but i'm NOT positive...lot of things can happen in 66 yrs....I was looking for a radiator cap and got one off another H, about a 45 or 46...but the pressure seal is too large and will not go into the neck on mine...what gives? If I order a replacement, aftermarket one w/ the wing, like from OEM, is there a different type I have to specify? I've cked a few caps on other tractors and they all appear to be just a little too big.

If the fuel tank cap is the same size as the radiator neck, you have the early radiator.

Forgot about that little trick. When my '40 H first came home the fuel cap and the radiator cap had been switched, didn't see it before because of all the dirt and rust, but each one fit just fine where it was.

Is the grill attached to the radiator with those DZUS fasteners? If so, you have the original radiator, and yes, it does take a different cap.
The DZUS fasteners have a hex shaped head with a slot for a screwdriver.

Yup, the grill does attach that way..another reason i figured it was the original...(forgot to mention it though)...that being said, where do I find the correct cap? or, can I just use a fuel tank cap since its a non pressure system?

The '40 H had a non-pressurized system
