But,

The good news is that the stinker moved a little. 'Course, that was at 1:30 this afternoon and hasn't budged since.

Sure hope the elves come in overnight and bale me out. :>)

Take a shank from an old flat bladed screwdriver (preabuse is accepted). Lay the side edge in the slot with the tang away from the ball end, and hose clamp the thing so that it can't get away. Pound on the shank to spread the slit. JimN

You have WAAAAAYYYYY more patience that I do. I’d have had the paint burned off, the end punched in with my air hammer, and pipe wrench teeth marks on that baby by now! :>) Now, that may not be a bad thing, yours will look better when you’re done (well maybe anyway).

Good luck!

|Hi Allan

I agree with Wayne.

I just replaced one in the cattle lot on 1086.

It had not been moved since '79

I couldn't drive it out so I grabbed a pipe wrench and spun it and it loosed right up.

I think its worth a try.

Mornin' Gary,

Just gettin' ready to go at it again. If she don't budge, might have to give that technique a try. :>)

Why not take the tie rod end out of the steering arm so you can ROTATE the inner tie rod??

Pour a little tranny fluid on it before going to bed and then play with it in the morning. You may find that it will move a litte easier

Aint they fun? this is cheating, but Ive taken a small right angle grinder and slit them up their back side, and rewelded them,,the welds on the bottom hardly seen,,not to much heat and wire welder works best,,but I would try torch method first,,,billy

I've "heard" that if you drive it around some rough ground, making "S" turns it will come out some more. Just make SURE it doesn't come out all the way! Don't ask how I know ;-)

This one's a bear. Usually, like Dave says, when they give just a little, the fight is all over. Not this one. :>(

I used the heat and two jacks on 'er to get the thing this far. Nothing was working, so I beat it back in twice and yanked 'er back out again.

It will only move this far.

Good news is that the other tierod and the two big tubes are all free as a new tractor.

So, I'll just soak 'er overnight and she's bound to give milk in the mornin'. :>)

Hey Allan did ya try driving some wedges in the slot? Looks like the spindle end is sort of mushroomed together. Might need the heat hammer and some sort of pickle fork or port-a-power.

Doesn't look like you've applied the acetylene wrench yet... at least you have a few cards left to play if nothing else.

Make sure to coat it good with anti-seize or grease so the next guy doesn't have so much trouble... he he

I thought when the started to come they were supposed to come easy from then on. Isn't that how it works? Are you getting this warm weather up your way too. I'm beat tonight as well. Stacked two semiloads of small bales headed for horses in Texas. My poor back, and I'm still young.

Allan, bet you never had so much fun in your life. Well mabe. I had the same problem with my 706. Used heat, chisled the slot, more heat, plenty of liquid wrench, hammers etc. Finally got her loosened up. Used plenty of never-seize on the little tubes and the big ones.

Suggestion. Put the Hydro 70 badge and the 686 badge on your 68670Hydro.

Keep warm and play safe.

A big Rose Bud heating tip, better if you have a friend with another to make two. Heat the tube to cherry red and let it cool. Put penetrant oil on it for a few hours. Repeat the heating and wait until cherry red disappears so it is not soft bang bang and it should let go. It looks like fun when we are looking at you pictures...is it fun up close and personal? Good luck!
