Party Is Over

Silly thing fought me all the way, but we finally got 'er stretched out a bit. Still not wild about that silly wide turning radius, but it "feels" somewhat better now than it did. Picture shows it "at the stops".

I dunno, if I run across the correct front end somewhere, I might have to swap it out.

The good news is that the old engine and tranny just click 'em off smooth as silk and it pulls really nice. It's gonna make a real good hayin' tractor, me thinks.

It operates just fine. It is just that the old 806 front end will not cut as sharp as the newer styled units.

Naw, I think that part of it is okay; its just the wrong throw on that style of front end 'cause she sure don't wanna cut very tight.

That inside wheel ought to be leaning into the turn more and both of the wheels ought to be coming around another 5 degrees or so.

Either a longer arm in the middle, or shorter arms on the outsides and it will turn sharper.

I would try to make a plate that bolts to the center steering arm and moves the inside ends of the tie rods more towards the rear of the tractor (in effect lengthening the arm). Just an idea if you don't want to spend the $$ on a front end.

If you don't get what I'm saying, post up a picture of the center linkage and I'll try to better explain it...

Just 'taint right/proper/correct as it should be, ya know? Bugs me every time I look at it. :>)

This tractor is a junk yard dog and it's got a front end off of an 806 under it.

The geometry is all wrong. Just doesn't feel like a Farmall, ya know? Won't spin on one wheel and suck 'er around the way it should. :>(

I've got a real bad habit of comparing every darned tractor in the world to that old 656. And even tho they still had the steel tube, those things would all but turn back on their own wheel tracks.

I wonder if after the 56s, IH decided to do something about those front ends on account of the radius. You are about the 10th guy that has told me that their 06 just didn't have the sharpest crank to 'em.

When they went to the cast iron outfits, pulled the stops out of the gungeon and put 'em out on the spindles, then they would pull on around with just that "little extra" throw to the steering arms.

I haven't priced a front end yet, but I 'spose the yards are probably gonna want a grand?
