Can't get it started!!!! I recently resored a 1941 Farmall H. New carb, new magneto, new plugs, wires, starter everything. I get spark at the plugs, gas at the carb, it just won't fire over. The magneto switch is on. I just can't think of anything that could be wrong. Hope this isn't a silly question, but does the clutch need to be disengaged? I can't get it fired. Any suggestions????

Try switching the plug wires on the mag 180 degrees #1 where #4 is now and so on and see if she starts if yes you can leave it that way or switch the mag 180 for the next guy. JON

Clutch makes no difference -- I usually disengage for two reasons, first, in case I forgot to put it in neutral, second, to keep it from turning anything behind the clutch (engine cranks slightly faster). I assume you timed it to TDC on #1, and have the carb adjustments set so that it can start. Since you have completely restored it, you do have an operator's manual, that has these settings?

If I'm reading this right your problem is you and haveing the MAG switch ON. When you have a mag and a switch hooked to it you need the swithc OFF when on it kills the engine when off the engine is set to run. Mags work in that way backwards of battery ignitions

He means he has it pulled out. As you know that means the mag is not grounded. Although technically incorrect, most people probably call it "on" when it is actually "off".
