YTers,

I got some TSC gift cards for Christmas and bought a new book with part of them; "Farmall: Eight Decades of Innovation" by Randy Leffingwell.

What a great book. It is full of history and stories and even more pictures. Every time I start reading it I find myself just leafing through, looking at the pictures.

Check it out if you have a chance.

Bill

I bought the book and have pretty much enjoyed it. However, and this is probably a personal thing, but I'm not into Hi-Crop tractors. To each his own and that's great for those of you who are into Hi-Crops. But I get a little tired of Randy's multiple pictures of Hi-Crops, some of the same tractor taken from every conceivable angle. But again, that's just me; I'm a total sucker for plain old, regular, tricycle, row-crop Farmall letter series tractors. Grew up with them, spent hours on an M, have a Super C, have a Super H about ready to paint and a Super M waiting in line. Those are my ideal babies and I could look at them in the flesh or in pictures forever. They are the best looking tractors ever made.

The Hi-Crops and single-wheel fronts just don't do it for me. My $.02.

I have the book -- it is ok. But, don't take everything Randy Leffingwell says as gospel, there are a lot of errors in the book -- just use it as a general, not 100% correct idea.

I purchased the book from my local Barnes & Noble book store. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but looking through glancing at pictures it may be my best Farmall/IH book that I have. Can't wait until I get the chance to spend the time to read it.

I agree, awesome book and well put together. I actually learned a few new things from the book and it did a good job of covering most all of the Farmalls. The book did a great job covering the Regular and F-series tractors which doesn't happy very often. If you want a book that explains why IH had financial problems then read, "A Corporate Tradegy by Barbara Marsh" does a good job of explaining what happened.

Your right, this is a great book. I was looking through it yesterday at my local TSC also. There really are some great pics in it.

I got it too for Christmas Bill, and I really liked the reading about how the financial woes ate up the company. I mean I didn't like it, but it cleared up a lot of questions of how a multi-million dollar company could bite the big one. The pictures were awesome, and the two big four wheel drive tractors that the fella up north still owns were awesome. And the only discrepency I saw was the picture of the "H" in front of the grainbins, and it quite obviously was not an H on pages 166 and 167, but it's still a great book. Harley

That tractor on page 166 looks to me to be the same 230 that is shown on page 243.
