Well I fired the 706 with 263 gasser up this afternoon after getting it all back together. Runs great, no noises, good oil pressure but I have two issues. The first one is the head gasket bubbles in two spots. I'am going to retorque the head tommorrow, hope this cures it. Had the head resurfaced and every thing was perfectally clean. The other thing is the valve cover gasket wants to leak in a corner. The victor gasket is a cork one, the one that was in it was a rubber one. Any tricks to making these seal or should I get a rubber one from the dealer.

I've had problems with those cheap cork gaskets that come with the kits on both valve covers and oil pans. Plus you have to be really careful with those cork gaskets as they break easy and then you're guaranteed a leak.

If the valve cover is straight and it still leaks, I'd go get a good rubber gasket from the dealer. Their not that expensive.

Well try the retorque and i have had to REAL torque them up to the diesel spec to get them to stop , it's the new gskt materal it is not as good as the asbestous and did you use spray copper coat ??? Now as for the valve cover did you stighten out the top as they get bent down in over time and then the bolts bottom out and a real lite coat of Dr. Blue or Black on both side of the cork gaskt . put it on with you finger and i do mean thin . Don't forget to run the valves a second time and watch the total timming and run the 93 octain and give it around 30-35 hours of run time doing things like hauling manuar moving bales spreading fertilizer no running the grinder mixer no plowen no discen change oil and filter after 10-12 hours then againat around 25-30 hours , then run the bag off it

I did not use copper coat. People I've talked to and the manuals say not to use it on IH 6 cylinders, should I have? I torqued to 95 ftlb, how high can I go before things start breaking? As for that darn valve cover I didn't check it on level surface, I will make sure to check it before I put it back on after I retorque. As for putting the tractor to work it will only be unrolling hay bales for the beef cows so it should have no trouble seating in with that easy work. Thanks for the tips, these tractor engines are a differant animal compared to the mostly automotive engines I have worked on in the past, the book is not always right.

What head gskt did you get a FelPro or the Victor ??? i have had more problems with the Fel Pro and as far as pullen the head down i have gone to 110 also did you run a tap down in the bolt holes and wash them out before you started putting it back together .I always run all the holes with a bottoming tap then clean with either and blow dry then a lite coat of white grease on the threads on the exgaust it gets never size

Used the Victor gasket. I did run a bottoming tap in the holes and washed them out with brake clean and air two times. Head bolt treads got a very light coat of engine oil. Sure hope I don't have to pull the head again, only thing I could do differant is use coppercoat. I guess if there is no coolant in oil I will run it awhile and see what happens.

Don't use a lub. on bolts unless the service manual tells you too....lubed bolts could over torque and stretch ,when dry/clean numbers are used, some break off.....
