I started the day after Christmas and worked pretty much steady every day. I took the head off to try to track down an antifreeze-
in -oil problem, among other things. Man, that took a lot of hours! Finally got it back together and washed and waxed even. I won"t know if it took care of the problem until spring, although I have a "good feeling" about it.
Good things:
Major oil leak in timing cover area fixed
Starts better cold now that inj pump is timed correctly. (it was off by one gear tooth)
New seat in cab
Hood lifts easier (new lift cylinder)
inside of engine looks good

not-so-good:
expensive brake component didn"t entirely fix slow brakes
still leaks hy-tran from an undisclosed location under cab (tranny rebuilt last year, ~$6000)
Steering hyd cylinders leak a bit.
temp sending unit wire needs replacing-it"s grounding somewhere.

It"s an ongoing process, same as my old tractors, just way more costly and complicated!
But "aint it purdy?
Paul

I dunno about that WD-6, that"s a little farther down the list! I"ve got a lot of fixing to do before that.
Now, if you were to come and give me a hand..... .. ;>)

Good for you Paul. It does look nice all cleaned up. I got a laugh about the, "just like my old tractors, just way more costly". You are absolutely right. I have an old 14 I use to farm with (not nearly as nice as your 7140), and it is ALWAYS an ongoing project.
Good luck,
Paul

Gee, here I was thinking that maybe I should have just gotten a
1466 or 86 instead of the Magnum, thinking that it would have been cheaper! I guess the grass is always greener.....
Actually I really like the Mag. It"s just that my farm business and custom work is too big to farm with equipment that is too old and small, but it"s too small to buy something new or low hours.
So..... . I fix and fix..... .

I did not know that they still made that model. Looks really good all waxed up. almost to nice to hit the fields this spring. Hope you fixed the problems that you addressed and the ones you didn't, hope that they don't bother you enough to cause more repairs this season.

Thanks Brad,
This tractor is a 1988 model, and of course there are several newer versions out since this was built, with the current ones being the MX series. It does seem a little too clean to use. It"s not that often that I get something that clean; it would be nice if it lasted! LOL!
Whereabouts in Wi are you? I"m in Valders area, south of Green Bay.

Here"s part of the reason it took so long. Look at all the "junk" on top of that head! This pic was taken after it was going together- and was taking forever! Maybe it doesn"t look like much, but it"s a lot of stuff to R&R. You can"t even see the aftercooler that has 18 little cap screws, some of which are 4" under the injector lines, between the valve cover and aftercooler. I"m not complaining, I"m just amazed sometimes at how much time some things can take.

Yeah and it"s 504 cu inches too. Here"s a pic of it all "naked". I don"t mind working on it, but I hope I don"t have to take it apart again real soon. ;>)
