Bill: These governors are really quite simple. You didn't say exactly what it is doing. First try adjusting the linkage behind the generator and going to the carb. Try it a little at a time both ways, see if that will improve the operation of the engine. If that fails, usualy it is about 3 items within the governor, namely thrust bearing, spring between input and output shafts of governor or shaft bushings. That governor housing can be a pain to remove, but usually if you remove the sheet metal over the rad, loosen the rad, unbolt it at the top so it can tip forward a bit, the governor housing will slip past obstructions. I've done 4 of these, and each one I seem to have new parts left over. I think I only had 1 of the 4 that required all 3, thrust bearing, spring and bushings. I am not a mechanic, and when I tackled the first one YT was not yet a reality. Try it and if you get in trouble, there are many folks on here will get you out. Just take the least expensive route first, adjustment, it may cure all.
