Had problwm with no power teering when temp. in 30's. removed, inspected, and replaced all seals and gaskets in multiple controll valve, and power steering control (pilot) valve and pump. Filled pump with hy train before reinstalling. Now nothing. Loosened power steering lines from Pilot valve no oil comes out. Pump does not seem to be pumping. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Could it be a problem with the Commutator in the hand pump??

This is just an idea, but do the brakes still work? If the brakes have pressure, the pump is pumping because the brakes are powered by the same pump. You could also disconnect an oil cooler line and see if fluid flows, as that should (I think) receive fluid from the brakes and steering system as well. If you have pressure elsewhere, maybe a passage got blocked by dirt or debris, or a valve or something was incorrectly installed (or my trademark, never installed :) ) in the steering system. I'm sure you'll get it figured out.

Hey Jack,

I'm with the Vet on this one.

Good pumps don't need the priming routine. Just the ones that are on their last gasps.

Last year I changed the hyd. filters on my 756D.
Everything worked before. After changing the filter, I had No powersteering at all. Someone on the Red Power Board, told me to bleed the system by removing the 5/8" head bolt on the back of the MCV valve.
Left side down by the step. I did as told and all problems went away. (NOTE) crank engine over while pulling fuel shutoff. My hand slipped off of the fuel shutoff, and I dumped quite a bit of fluid quickly. Definately worth trying. Gene

Try trunning the steering wheel to the left at 3/4 throttel this also bleeds the air out of the system and it does not make a mess on the floor.

I have had the engine running about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and turned the steering wheel to the left. There is no resistance when i turn the wheel. Is that the way it should be?? The local CIH mechanic suggested over filling with 2 to 3 extra gallons of hy-tran. That has not helped.

Well if ya have done all of the above then ya got a problem . As i do not know what all you did . Did you have the MCv off and did you make sure that you did not damage the sump check plug . And if no oil is at the steering wheel thenit will turn free and that also tells me that it is leaking back but if you had the MCV off then all oil has drained and there will be no oil at the wheel . Now you can try and put some air pressure to the rear end by pullen the dipstick and put a blow gun down the opening and put a rag around it to help hold the air in and with the engine running at around 12-1500 rpm it will take a littel bit to pressureize it this has helped them to take prime BUT DO NOT PULL THE BLOW GUNOUT WITH OUT KEEPING THE RAG OVER THE OPENING ONCE IT DOES TAKE PRIME . or you will have a gusher andit will rain Hy Tran from the celing for a month BTDT let the back pressure off easy . if this does not work then ya had better get a pump and stop fussen with it.

Tractor vet. You mentioned the sump check valve. Where is this part. I can not find it on my shop manual.

It is located on the lower right hand corner behind the MCV it is a plastic plug with a tet and a small spring that looks like a ball point pen spring and this holds fluid to the steering and brakes when the engine is shut off . It is real easy to loose the spring if one does not know that it is there when you remove the MCV . and caution must be used when replacing the MCV i like to use 4 long guide studs to slide it on stright and even and watch that spring as the MCV come in contact. with it as not to kink it.
