Lot of things get changed over the years but I can give you some things to look for if original.
400 and 450 will have 3 gauges in a insterment panel under steering collum.400 will have key switch in panel,450 has a starter button there with key switch down in insterment shrould.400 steering wheel covered on outer ring,450 all plastic covered.400 rear light right side batt. box,450 left.On bottom of clutch pedal 400 has a screw and lock nut to limit travel,450 none there.
Theres other things but this may be enough for you to tell.If SMTA the oil and temp gauges are out under hood. You have a early tractor in production run if all # are being seen.54 or 56 if 450.

That helps, but doesn"t solve this mystery. The serial number and suffixes were stamped, while the model number would have been printed/painted on the tag. Your serial number is 661, and the "S" suffix indicates that your tractor is equipped with a TA. Pretty much narrows it down to a Super MDTA, a 400, or a 450. Look through the photo section, SMTA"s look quite a bit different than 400"s and 450"s. You should be able to narrow it down a little more that way. 400 and 450 are almost identical in apperance other than paint. Main difference between the two is that the 400 had the 264 engine while the 450 had the 281. Check your engine block for these numbers.

Vinny the other thing to remember with this engine, always after working it and getting it up to operating temperature, let it idle and cool down before shutting it off or you will crack a head in a New York minute. They were bad for this if shut off right away, but if allowed to cool they would about run forever. Good luck, Harley
