I sand blast all the parts. They make a product called TAPE for the places you dont want sand to get into. Gets metal all cleaned up great for prime coat. First one i finished was in 84 and it has been on 6 tractor rides and plows gardens parades shows and whatever. So what harm did i do by sandblasting.

same here, sand blasted the trans today. Taped up the seals etc with duct tape and was careful when blasting around them.

Question. Are you doing a true restore or just getting it looking good again?? If a true restore then that would mean you are also opening up the engine and if so the machine shop will hot tank the block and that removes all the paint etc on the engine. Other parts well that can be fun to do unless you want to hot tank all the parts.

Cast is virtually indestructible, but the sand will get into everything you don't want it to be in. I use a combination of oven cleaner, chemical stripper, and wire brushes on an angle grinder or electric drill. Any "empty" parts that you remove can be sandblasted.

Don't even think about sandblasting the main chassis. The sand will get into everything. Blasting a hood or fenders off the tractor is fine. Use a pressure washer to get rid of as much dirt/grease/ paint as you can. Try some oven cleanr, let it soak for a while, pressure wash it off. Several applications will be nessesary.
