Ok guys thanks for the help on getting spark and check to coil. We found we had a bad new aftermarket rotor and cap not made right> NOw that we have spark we can't get it to time up correctly. The impulse coupling is not snaping when its supposed to. It does snap but seems like its 90 degrees off.???? thanks

You need to pull No1 sparkplug and bring that piston up on the compression stroke to TDC. Then look to see where your rotor is pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. Hal

What's the mag on?

If it is a flange-mount magneto, almost always, the impulse will "snap" when the lugs are horizontal (- -), and when the tractor is timed ready to install the mag, the slots in the mag drive will also be horizontal (- -). (Unless someone has installed the mag dive out of time with the engine.)

At what orientation are the tangs on the mag you are working with when it snaps?

I put the drive gear in myself and sure I had the timing marks lined up. the 2 dive lugs are vertical at tdc when installed on to motor. And I think you right the coupling doesn't snap until there hoizontal. which would mean somethings off time right??

Mag is right, assuming you are really at TDC, drive is wrong. No need to worry about timing marks on the drive. Just set it to horizontal at TDC. From there, final timing can be made with the slots on the mag flange.

I hope your cam and crank are correctly timed to each other!

Double check yur timming. #1 piston at top of compression stroke, rotor should be at the # 1 distributor cab post.
