hoping for some help on the t/a on my 706.....3 questions,
1- tractor tries to move in t/a after adjustment.... i am assuming it is out, but is there anything else to try??
2- if it is out, the dealer tells me i can get the clutches and whatnot for the underdrive for around $300 cdn, is this a good idea? ( i can get the whole unit for just under $1000.....but not ready to sink those $$ into it just yet)
3- what other problems would i be likely to run into, aside from the main clutch? any info i could get would be greatly appriciated!!

Well if it does not move in eithe direct or on the low side then i would say that the main clutch is out and not the T?A unless the PTO input is out then the hdy pumps and hitch and PTO will not work but if they are working the well it has to be the main clutch or even the input shaft is broken and this i have seen only once on a 766 gasser where the input shaft was twisted off. . So anyway it's got to be split to find the problem.

thanks for your reply tractor vet, the tractor moves in direct.....no problem, and everything else is working, but it slips in lo, so t/a must be out. is it wise to just do the t/a clutch as opposed to the whole unit?

If it slips in Low, it is the sprague that needs replacing, not the clutch. The clutch is what holds it in high.

When ya got it tore down to the running gears of a KADDYDID ya do it all at one time a complete T/A ASSY . new clutch pressure plate throwout bearing pilot bearing go thru the MCV with all new gskts. and O/Rings and a spring kit also reface the flywheel and setting of the end play on the T/A assy. and check the splines on the PTO input if they are half gone replace it also as it will fail way before you should ever have to split the tractor again. So from what you have told me YEP NOWS THE TIME TO FIX IT.
