Starter Soleniod ?????

My 330U has been having a problem when trying to start it. I will turn the key switch off but the starter keeps on spinning or trying then I pull the battery cable. I have narrowed it down to the starter solenoid. If I tap it, it will sometimes stop the starter from spinning. My tractor is a 12volt system and i noticed a 6V stamped in the solenoid, does that need to be 12V. Also, when I get it to run, it will only run for one second and just die. Would the starter solenoid cause the tractor to die like that?

do you have an electrical shop nearby?? they always have what you need. we have a good one in Minnesota.

You can use a soliniod from a ford car/truck from say around 1970. Your problem is that it has started the tractor a few to many times and has started to burn the point in there and that is what causes it to stick. I'd run a hot wire from the battery to the coil to see if it will run that way. If it does then you have a bad wire or bad switch which could also be your soliniod problem.

I just tried hooking up a wire from the coil to the battery and all I got was a constant draw (buzz on starter) seemed like it had no power to turn the starter over. My key switch has four terminals on it. SOL, IGN, BAT, ACC, what exactly should I have hooked up to what on there. I have SOL hooked to the solenoid stud with the POS battery cable, IGN hooked to the coil, BAT hooked to the amp meter, and I am not using ACC at all. Is this right?

Well if you ran a hot wire from the battery to the ignition coil and it makes the solinoid buzz you have some real problems with the wireing. From what your saying it sounds like you have thing wired right, but does the other side of the amp gauge go to the battery?? Ops maybe you have some thing wrong . The center stud on the switch, which should be the start stud, should be hooked to the small stud on the solinoid not where the battery cable hooks. Drop me an e-mail and I'll send you info on where each wire from the switch should go, I'm also guessing its a universal ignition switch right??

I did and got nowhere with it. When I ran the 10ga wire from the solenoid to the amp meter and the 16ga from the solenoid to the key switch, the tractor had a constant flow of electricity and the key switch could not stop the starter from spinning.

key switch is bad or the terminal is loose and rubbing against the other..common problem

or the solenoid is fried..

use a toggle switch or your hands at the switch to jump the starter. one of the two ( or both) are junk

I need to know what part number the solenoid is 6v and/or 12V. My parts book has really nothing on the starter.
