Hi Guys,

This old '47 K6 is selling from over in Colorado.

The engine just doesn't look right to me. Looks as though it came out of about a '57 pickup.

Didn't all those old Ks have the flatheads prior to about '54 or so? I know darned well that the 1947 K5s and the 1949 K7s had the flathead.

Allan

Hi Gordo,

While you're at the ebay site, left click up in your address bar at the top of your browser, that will hi-light it's address. Then, right click on it and choose "copy".

Then, come to your message here at YT and just paste it into the "URL" box and give it a name in the other box. Stay away from the "Image" box.

Allen, I happened on to a add in a old magazine this evening. Its a 1947 US News for Dec. 5. Its the KB6 that was being discussed. I don't know how to get the photo in the thread. Posted in vintage adds. ken

No doubt about that is the correct engine. It is a Blue Diamond six used on the KB6 and up. The old Blue diamond went to 282 ci, and also 308 ci in the late 1950's.

Allan it sure would be nice to see some pictures of your gleaner loading that ole binder with wheat this summer. I'll even bring my kb-5 out and help ya. That is a sharp truck. Looks like it has a wooden ohmaha standard bed. My kb-5 is a 47 and it has the green diamond 233 with a straight 4 speed and 11ft ohmaha standard. bill

Hi Bill,

I just happened to stumble across this thing on ebay this morning. They were a fantastic old truck in their day.

The one I'm eyeballin' is a little newer however. I'm so darned far from the elevator that I'm gonna need something with a little more umph. :>)

Yea, I here ya allan but how good would that truck look in line at the elevator? Around here its about 10 to one semis to everything else. Somebody is gonna get a real nice truck it looks like. I'll have to watch that and see what it brings. Just drove mine saturday, nothing better than a truck with straight cut gears, flat head six motor and a crank out windshield. Now that's walking in high cotton. bill

It looks right as rain to me. I will say, you have good taste. As least when you're waiting in line with this at the elevator among all those fancy Petes and KWs you'll have something that makes a statement.
PS:Last week on the Photo Ads there was a 44 Chevy truck that really caught my attention. Wish I could justify 10K for a toy.

The engine looks correct to me. A friend near here has a recently restoured KB-7 that has a 269 OHV six that looks just like the engine in the picture.

Engine for that truck should be a BLD- 250 and in later years the BLD 269.

Allan: My info says the K5 was a flathead as where all down to K1. K 4 and down had a smaller flathead. K6 had the BLD 250 OHV and pictures I have as far as I can tell the pic in ad looks like what I have in my book. My book also says the 49 K7 had a BLD 269 OHV. I don't know . I do know for certain that IHC never built 2 trucks the same,my opinion from buying parts for them. Maybe they stuck a flathead in some K7s. IMO the K models are the best looking trucks IH ever built.

Duner,

The K5 was the 1 1/2 ton, right? Maybe that '49 we had was a K5 also; been so darned long ago. I do remember that they both had flatheads in 'em, tho.

Trucks to the hilt, but like the guys says, they would top out at 45 mph, loaded or empty. Even the later '59 B-160 would beller at 50 mph. :>)

Never did like the vacumn two-speed.

Allan, We had a KB5 new in 49. It was a ton and a half with a flathead.

Allen, I believe thats the correct engine. I had a identical truck several years ago and rebuilt the engine. Sleves & pistons, just like the IH tractors. Believe it was a Blue Diamond 6.

Forgot to add, they were OHV 6s. Just like the old chevy stove bolts, only a lot beefier.
