Please Explain how to wash a engine with soap and water. I heard you mention it a couple of times. I know it seems strait forward but I dont want it to rust up.

The boy have it about covered , but when wahing out the cylinder bore ya scrub till it starts to rust then ya know it is free of all oil and grit then i rinse it whip it with a clean rag and then i coat a rag with just plain old oil and wipe it down . I have the special bore brushes for the block and cranks and a real good pair of rubber gloves because i use HOT water i mean real hot water to cut the grease and oil and a real strong soap water mix use to use steam cleaner soap but it burned the skin tomuch and went with mr clean or what ever and trippel the mix and put it together . A littel surface stain rust will not hurt a thing .

Like the other guys said, hot water and dish soap. Remove every single plug from the block. Get yourself a small brush with a long handle to get down into the main oil galley, and a real small brush to get into the oil passages. If you"ve got a pressure washer, pressure wash it first, then scrub with soap, then rinse with the pressure washer. Blow it dry with compressed air right away. I prefer not to spray clean parts down with oil, as it tends to collect dust. Rust will not be a problem, as long as you dry it off right away.

It"s also good to wash out the oil galleys in the crankshaft and in the engine block with a gun bore cleaning brush, especially after the crank has been ground or machine work has been done. It may save the bearings from getting grit in them that was in the oil galleys.

I always use Dawn dish soap and a good sponge with warm to hot soapy water. Keep washing until a white rag comes out clean, gets all the machining shavings out of the cylinder.

After washing, rinse well, dry well, then coat with oil, wd-40 or some other oil product to keep it from rusting.
