This road gear out of my 300. Does the gear look shot on the inside. If so, where do I get a new one.

Looks about gone to me. The gear is available from aftermarket suppliers

Hey, Tractor Vet in reply to Levi K, 02-15-2006 15:34:06
It might look alright to you, but it doesn't stay in 5th, it jumps out.

If it is jumping out of gear it is not the gear that is the cause i would be looking at the shift fork or the output on the T/A a new gear may help for a short time but you have other problems as the ware i can see in the picture is not that bad as i said before , now maybe the collar where the fork rides is wore but i can't see that or how the fork fits the slot or it could be that the shift rail is not making full travel but that gear is not that bad on the 5th side.

With respect, The Tractor Vet is optimistic.
I would replace it. Even if the splines were nice on the driven end, it is not strong.

Looks like someone was just tryen to round it out for a better SPEED SHIFT i have seen worse put it back together and don't worry about it just don't knock out the rollers out of the ft. bearing wrap them with a couple heavey rubber bands and don't worry about them they will be fine in there .

Tractor Vet, you need to take another look at that gear. There is absolutely no way that part could be reinstalled with any hope of functioning.

Rusty from what i see there is only about 10-15% of that gear that is wore off from draggen it in and beleive me i have seen worse that still hold so there is other issues here that are being over looked so if it jumping out then like i said i would take a closer look at the other factors before i started throwen parts around now if the shift collar is wore witch i did not see or the shift fork is wore or the out put shaft looks bad or was set incorrectly then it will not stay in and even if ya do replace that gear and there is still the other parts that were over looked it will not last long before it starts doing it again but since i can not look at it myself and do some massureen .

My Friend,
I think it is a lighting thing with the photo. If I look at it for a while I can see it looking better. It is very bad. There is less than 15% remaining of the internal splines!!!, and it is rounded beyond possible use.
Check looking at it again.
