Uh-Oh back up ther one second kfox "I did manage to save the adjuster shaft with the spring thing. Learned how easy they break with the first tractor." I start my FIRST 'H' brake job next week on my 44. Can you expand a little on this one please. I'll take any advice on brakes for that matter.

Re: H Brake Problem in reply to 772TAS, 02-15-2006 21:44:10
The brake adjuster is the connection between the brake pedel and the arm on the shaft coming out of the brake housing. My first experience with H brakes was on a 1941 model that had set for a long time. The shaft that operates the brake shoes was frozen in the side of the transmission housing and it took me most of a day to get the cover off, and most of the next day to get the shaft out of the brake cover. After i relined the brake shoes, I needed to adjust the brakes, and the the clevis that is on the end of the threaded shaft(that sticks out of the big spring) broke off of the threaded shaft like it was made out of glass. It appears to be spot welded on, so be careful when you try to turn it. Went to the boneyard and got a replacement and it fell off when I tried to turn it. ken
