AS you can see from the pictures i have a 1946 Farmall H that i bought recently, and the rear wheels are set i think awfully close together becasue the rear wheeels are dished out with a set of wheeel weights. Would it be ok to change them around even to get a maiximum rear width for stability purposes? Waht is the maximum? Also....How HARD is it to get those wheels off? jsut loosen th 2 bolt that i see on the inside? What about the wheels weghts are they hard? The tread on the tires will be going backwards once i do this, but i dont think it really matters?
Thanks Ryan

You take the left tire and rim with the center and move it to the right side and then the one on the right goes on the left that way the dish is out and the tires are going the right direction. There is nothing wrong with the way they are now just what are you going to do with tractor. Sounds like you are inexperienced with tractor operation or you would know how to space tread width maybe you should get some help from another owner with an H

Good advice but do not believe anyone has mentioned that the 4 bolts that hold wheel clamps can be hard to break loose if they have not been loosened in a long time. I usually have to use lots of penetrating oil and about 4 foot cheater on flex handle to break them loose. Have seen some twist off in clamp before they would move.

Maximum width with standard axles is 80 inches center of one tire to center of the other. Do not try to take off those wheels without help. If you work alone use an engine hoist. Even then they can tip over. If you use a hoist take the weights off first -- unless you are a pro football player. They will squash you pretty good if you slip and fall.

Yes, it will be more stable. However, putting the wheels all the way out put quite a bit more stress on the axles and bearings. Paul

Others covered the tread direction, you seem to have got that with the application of coffee.
I'm not sure about the maximum width after you switch them around, but it's about 8 feet. As for "How HARD is it to get those wheels off? jsut loosen th 2 bolt that i see on the inside? What about the wheels weghts are they hard?" weel, that depends. Sometimes they come easy, sometimes people write about having to go get their acetelyne tanks refilled. It's a rust and torque thing. The weights are about 145lbs each. After you get them off you'll see that there are 4 bolts on each hub, I think you're not seeing the ones behind the weghts.
Good Luck, and Cowman's right, they look better the other way.
Wm

switch the wheels side to side to keep the tread going the "right" way. A couple tractor pullers here ahave started running their tires "the wrong way" but to me it still looks "stupid"

If you have long axles they go out a long way. yeah, just loosen the clamps.

"The tread on the tires will be going backwards once i do this"
Maybe I"m confused, but if you swap the wheels side to side, why would the tread be backwards?
