Go to "Gallaries - Tractor Photos" for pictures of my carb icing fix. This is a solution that works for me on my 1953 Super H. I "guessed" correctly for the size. Not too much heat (with a loss of power and detonation) and not too little heat (icing continues). HTH.

That is a good idea, I never had icing in my A of course I do not run it much in the winter nor does get really cold in NJ like in the midwest but cold enough.

You must have been around aviators. Thats exactly how its done on most small planes. If you get carb ice you pull the Carb Heat cable that diverts a small amount of hot air from around the muffler into the intake tube to melt out the ice. Sometimes a large piece of ice will go through the carb causing the engine to cough a little just enough to wake up the pilot.

I am a pilot, but the idea stems more from my automotive background when cars used exhaust manifold heat to improve cold start driveability and prevent icing. Yeh, I'm dating myself as it has been awhile since the car companies did that -- computers and fuel injection ended the need for it. The hot air hose is the coated flexable aluminum type. Aircraft scading hose would work but at a much higher cost. In warmer weather this heat system comes off and I revert to the production air cap.
