My brother-in- law took a job in NYC and he had been in Florida working for the same company 10 or 12 years. It was actually a transfer his wife told my wife that he had received a big promotion to take the job. After they made the move, she told my wife it took more than the promotion to live up there. He had to buy dark business suits and in FL he wore a sports jacket and he was about 10 minutes from the office. They lived in NJ across the river from NYC and he had to take the bus to catch the subway and then had to walk where the office was. This was in the heat or cold and snow. They eventually moved the office to Long Island and they rented there too. Most of the office help didn't move to LI and he had to recruit and hire new office help. They were transferred to Detroit soon after that move and they bought their first home until he retired in 1990.

We had people to take transfers to DC and commuted every day. They were taking the train and had to leave around 5 am and then get over to the Pentagon by 8am and getting back to their cars by 7pm provided the trains were not late. It's nothing worse than having a job you hate to go to. Hal PS: That's why I stayed at the same job for 43 years, that included 2 years in the Army during the Korean War.
