Does a M&W govenor really make a difference on the M tractor?
What is one worth? I know they are on ebay from time to time, but I'm sure they bring more there that normal. thanks

Rusty is Right it does not give you any more power. Yet it really opens up what you have. We got one on out Super H and you can really feel it!! The only bad thing is that the carb and gov, have to really be insink. We plan on pulling it this year. In our club we pull a stone boat, so we think that it will work good! Alot of shock all at once. Andrew

The M&W governor was designed to give quicker response when encountering a hard spot while plowing etc. If your tractor is a pulling tractor, you have a different set of circumstances taking place. A pulling tractor, when hooked to the sled, very seldom encounters a "hard spot" that it has to overcome. Instead you are dealing with a steadily increasing load, and the stock governor has plenty of time to deal with that load and respond accordingly. So, the answer is no, an M&W or Rocket governor will not make that much difference. You will be much better off to "tweak" the stock governor.

Our Super M has an M and W Gov. and it WORKS!! We run it on the grinder once and a while, and when the gov. pops open it has a tendency to slip the drive belts on the hammer mill. It will pull a loaded 18 foot hayrack up the hill by the drive way in 5th, all the way to the driveway. The M gets half way up in 5th, then finishes in 4th, The SMTA will do a little better than the M, but you have to pull the joylever half way up the hill. To make a long story short, that Super M really goes.

Our Super M has one,, Bad part is about these governors are they surge unexpectedly,, Those heavier weights will keep the carb open under a load,, but I dislike em for when your just putting around, or light work. Yeah, you can fine tune em to not surge, but, its alot of headache to do so. JMHO,, Stick with a stock 2 weight governor. Unless you want that M&W name on your control lever housing. ChadS
