Hi all, had a question about the hydro trans on my tractor.I have an IH250A tractor with the D239 and hydro trans.Im in the process of setting it up for blowing snow and installed an engine heater and heavy canvas cover over the hood and engine.I started it up yesterday and let it warm up for about half an hour but the power steering didnt seem to be working. The trans and 3point seemed ok but the steering was tough. The lines from the steering cyl go to the trans.Any ideas? it was about 10 degrees out and the first time Ive had a problem. Could it possibly need to have the hydro oil changed Thank you Jason

On my Hydro tractors that I used in winter, I always changed the oil in the fall (and the spring) using Hytran oil. With good fuel, motor, battery ,and a block heater, my girls always started sleeping in an unheated shed. After starting the motor, I would put the range lever in neutral and the speed control full forward with the motor at 1200 RPM to warm up. This would not warm the oil in the power steering or the loader. After warming for 10 to 15 minutes, a couple of cycles of the steering and loader would mix the oil enough to go .In 5 minutes, all was warm and working well. The oil must circulate to warm, and having the Hydro in neutral does not circulate it. In extreme cases you could install a winter oil. Never needed it here, would be something else to look after and inventory..... ...QR..

Thanks Quebec Red for the idea. I never thought of running the range lever in neutral to circulate and warm the oil. Is that what is used in all big tractors hytrans oil ?Any specific brands to use Thanks Jason
