Fast Hitch sickle mower model?

I am in the process of finding manuals for some of my older equipment. I have a Farmall Super C with a fast hitch, and I bought a used 7' sickle mower that fits it from a dealer maybe 15 years ago. Parts for it are still available from my local Orscheln store. So, how would I determine what model I have so I can find a manual for it from CaseIH? I recently got manuals for my Cub Loboy, Super C and Magnetos that have been a big help in maintaining and tuning these machines.

Don: One quick way to identify the C-28 from the other fast hitch mowers. The C-28 has a pivot arm on the side of mower frame that actually lifts the cutter bar as you raise the hitch.

With all the older Fast Hitch mowers the actual hitch was set constant during mowing and a pull rod for lifting cutter bar went to one of the rockshafts on the left side of fuel tank.

All these mowers are so much alike, you would have very little problem if you had a C-28 manual. It is much like these tractors themselves. You buy a manual for a 200, it will give you quite good info all the way back to the C. I lost the manual for my SA, it is of little consequence as manuals for 130 and 140 give all I need plus they cover items not on the SA.

If it`s a fast hitch pitman mower for a Super C, then it`s either a C-21(one spring) or a C-24(two spring). There was also a C-28 fast hitch mower with a pitman that was built for a 300 Utility that looks like the C-21 & C-24 but it has a longer drop from the prongs to the mower frame. C-21 & 24 also have an axle clamp on the right side of the mower that braces the mower to the right axle. C-28 mower doesn`t have that,I don`t think. Mark

Thanks Mark and everybody else that has responded to this question. From what you guys have given me, I think that I have the C-21 model. It has one spring (about 24" long) on the shaft that pulls up the sickle. It does not appear to have the pivot arm like the C-28 that lifts the cutter bar when you raise the hitch. It also has a piece of tubing about 2" long with an outside diameter of 1.25" and an inside diameter of 0.75" that is welded to the top of the angle bracket on the right hitch frame that attaches to the breakaway clamp. This tube is parallel to the axel on the tractor, so I assume that this was the clip for the axel clamp that would brace the mower to the right axel. I don't have any of these parts with the mower. So another reason I need the operating manual. Any other information on this identification is appreciated.

Thanks. Don Mountain

Is it a pitman drive or a balanced head drive?

It has a wooden pitman with a cast iron clamp with springs in it that clamp over a ball on the end of the sickle bar. And the other end has a flat steel blade bolted in the middle of it and hooks to an offset on a pulley driven with a belt from the PTO driven pulley above. The only marks I could find on it are: IH over M-2571 on the upper, larger, drive shaft driven pulley.

Does it have one lifting spring (spring about 2 ft long) or 2? It's most likely a 24-V or some such designation. I have the same mower with the single lift spring. Can't get to my parts manual right now, but they are good mowers. BobG in VA

Probably the best way to have your mower identified would be to post a picture of it. I'm sure someone on here will know exactly what you have.

But that will mean that I have to clean it all up? I don't have a steam cleaner. And I use it.
