Not another SHTA story

I saw a 1952 Super H sell at an auction last week with a factory installed (rumor had it) power steering unit. The pump was belt driven and was mounted on the left side of the engine. The really odd thing about it was the fact that there was a hole in the top of the hood directly above the PS unit. There was a adjusting nut visible from the top and I assumed this was to adjust the pressure of the pump. Did IH ever make such a ps pump? BTW, the Stage I SH sold for $2600.

My mistake, it was a 1953 SH, not a 1952. Guess what really stood out on this particular tractor was the hump on the hood that was directly above the ps unit. As Rusty Farmall pointed out, it most likely was a Charr lynn unit. Marv

Typo? There is no such thing as a "1952" Super H. They were still making Hs well into 1953.

...and where does TA come into the story?

Nat, I totally missed that one. You are correct, the Super H was not introduced until mid 1953. I passed up a deal on a 1953 straight H not too long ago. Serial number was high enough that it had to be very close to being one of the last Hs built.

I'd love a 1953 H, within the last 2000, myself. That and a 1952 M, within the last 2000. Both have disk brakes. I've seen exapmples come up on ebay a few times.

Typical Char-Lynn aftermarket power steering. The hole in the hood was to give access to the reservoir so you could add fluid when needed, and the pump would not fit under the hood without the hole being there.Whoever told you it was factory was full of it.
