Have a chanch to buy a 1568 Black stripe tractor with cab and hub duals. One slight problem engine has a hole in the block. Where could I find another engine. Guy wants $5000 as is for the tractor. If I can come up with a good or rebuildable engine Will have a nice tractor. Any ideas?

Its the same motor they used in a lot of their trucks 1870"s etc... Its called a DV550 so go to a truck salvage place and ask if they have any laying around. There"s a few around yet. Converting it to a six cyl. would be sacrilege. Those things are hot rods and should be preserved.

go with the inline six not the V8. Tractor is preety much a salvage so don't give more than salvage price. Not real sure but I think the frame rails were justa hair longer on those V8's

Unless you know everything else is in top-notch shape, it's not worth $5000, IMHO. New TA, good tires, transmission okay... You know, the usual stuff.

Converting to a DT466 inline 6 would be the way to go here.

I only know about half the story, but if I understand it right, the 1468 & 1568 used the same or a very similar engine as the 9 liter diesels used in trucks. And both were based on the block used in the 549 gas engines. I have no idea whether that equals interchangability with the block used in tractors or not.

If you go over to the Red Power Magazine site and ask on their forum, somebody can give you the conplete story, I'm sure.

If you want to keep it a V-8 I don't know where to find one. But there is a shop in Neveda Iowa that does a good job of repairing blocks.
They did a 6 cylinder for us years ago and when we traded the tractor it still worked fine.
Or you could get a 6 from a combine at a salvage yard.

Frame rails and fan shroud are different and a few other details. I know a guy that has a couple parts 1468 that might have a decent block for sale. They would be in Washington state. Migraine
