I have a 9 speed in my md and it does pretty well double the pto speed. the belly pump isn't hooked up so I'm not sure what it does for the operation of it. Last owner took the pin or clip out of the belly pump...it is a m and w with a solid handle to the right side of the tractor

My M has a cable operated 9-speed and I've been told that it's a M&W . I've also been told that the Heisler (?) brand is a lever shifted model . I can't verify either suggestion . If you have a push-pull cable that goes into the clutch housing just under the belt pulley on the right side that's the 9-speed shifter . Mine works pretty good . Since I can't shift my tractor when it's moving it's a moot point as to what gear I start in . A M will travel at 16 to 17 mph in 5th and I think the 9-speed will give about 8 to 10 in 4th-hi but I've never clocked it . In contrast my 1755 Oly will only do 18 to 19 mph with the over-under in overdrive and maxed out on the rpm's so that old M scoot's on down the road OK ! Have fun !

If your M has the lever on the left it will be like a "suicide shift". Now I betcha understand, huh? Harley

There were a couple of brands. The one had a shifter lever on the left side. The other had a cable running to the right side. You will like the one with lever on the left side of the tranny better.

I kinda guess you may not know the purpose of a 9 speed or how it helps a M become all it can be. Basicaly you would go 1 to 4th gear as normal. Then you pull/ push the lever for the 9 speed and drop back into 1st gear and progress to 4th. The 5th gear stays the same regardless what you do. M's and H's had a down fall not having those high sided gears for alot of their work, and 5th is many times way to fast for saftey or power. One of the best options offered of those tractors in my opinion. I sure wish I had one. Also on the high side it will speed up the PTO, it may double it, but I can't remember for sure. Dave NE IA

I have a H with a 9 speed, and I'm wondering what this does to the bellypump. The coupling had been removed when I got the tractor, and there has been a LOT of oil run down the clutch housing in the past. Guess I'll find out when I get it done. ken

If an "M" has a 9 speed it will have another shifter or cable.
