Farmall H Year???

Recently purchased an H and from what I have read it would be a 1943 because it has the cut off wheels with a rim welded onto the flat steel spokes. Any way I was told you could tell the year of farmalls by looking at the pedistal between the front wheels. Well this tractor has 8.26.V, has anyone seen this and or know what the V means? Also does any one know how many H were produced in 1943?
Thank You, Wade...

What you have read is wrong as steel wheels the cut-off type you describe does not have any fixed year of the tractor. You need serial# and casting codes to realy know what year it was built as over the years you dont know if those were even the rims that came with the tractor new. I would check for casting codes and would want to find at least two places or more they were close together as you have no way knowing what else has been changed.

Dave is correct, there is a casting number on every major, and most minor castings, they will all be different but probably will be within a couple of months unless one has been replaced. Steel wheels were available at least through the 450, (1956-58). The later the year the less likely it came with them, particularly if it was assembled later than 1945. A single casting number is meaningless without others to compare it with.

Steel wheels are still listed in the parts books for the 06 series.

Red Power Magazine showed them on some Amish tractors on later models than that -- probably had them made -- the 450 was only a guess, not surprising they were available for the 06 series.

Supposedly V was not used, but I have heard some people say it was on this forum. U & W was 1951. Check other casting dates to see if they also have the same letter. A steering post can easily be replaced.

Dave, I also live in Austin, TX and am a farmall guy with a '39 H and a 48 Cub. If you're mechanically minded, I'd like to get together. I'm about equally good at driving my horses and tractors, but I'm much better with the horses than the mechanical end of the tractors. K.W. (kelly)

We did live in St. Maries, on the St. Joe River, just south of Lake Coeur d'Alene, but we moved to Austin, Texas about a month ago. I'd change my handle to Dave_Tx, but that' already been taken.

How funny. I was born and raised in Dallas, moved to Idaho 21 years ago. All our family is still down south. When ya get the chance take the short drive to San Antonio, Check out the Alamo and the River Walk. Lots of family fun.

I have a brother in Austin. It was a quiet little town of about 200,000 or less when he moved there in 1950, before the Interstate, expressway system -- no more -- how do you like the traffic?
