I"ve noticed the past couple of times that I"ve started my H there is a bunch of black "fluff" or soot that blows out of the exhaust. Is this something I should be concerned with or is my carb just not adjusted properly?

i agree with everyone my ole h was so carboned up that when you ran it down the road it would blow chunks out enough to bring blisters to any part of your skin they touched its tuff tring to avoid bugs and hot carbon.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the posts. Hook that H to something big and work the heck out of it. My old H is the same way. It will puff black when you first start it if you have just babied it around. If you work the tar out of her all the time, it runs great. Just blow the cobwebs out of it once in a while. Just my 2 cents

put that ol H on a 40ft silo blowing silage for a couple hours. Work the pisss out of it and she'll clean right up. She's just been idled around alot I would guess. The muffler gets full of unburned deposits. I would guess at night along with the fluff there would be sparks. I filled silo with a super m for the last 13 years on a 40 and 60 footer and she has no carbon in it. I tell ya you have to work the living pisss out of them old tractors to keep em running top notch

I agree,

And, it doesn"t matter what model either. They just are not happy unless they are pulling for all they are worth.

The harder you work "em, the better they run.
