Magneto success!

With all the help from others on this site, I finally got my magneto to run. After sitting on my Farmall M for 8 years not running, I couldn"t get any spark. After fooling with it for several weekends, I had to move the tractor, so I borrowed the battery ignition off my Farmall Super C. Now I was stuck with the magneto problem on my Super C. After moving it to our new house in Iowa, I installed a new coil in it and put new plugs, points , condensor, cap and rotor in it. I had a little trouble timing it to the engine. But it started up and appears to run fine. I even worked tonight for a couple of hours with the lights on the tractor, spreading out an old pile of manure with the belly blade. Works much better than the 3-point mounted blade on my M!

Thats great Don, You did not happen to grease the bearings on the ol girl did ya after sitting that long she may need it . Also did you use the roofing cement on the coil core when you pressed it back in? Hope so.See you did not need to replace that mag with a dist like alot of people say. JON FARMALLMAGNETO.COM

My Super C that I put the Magneto on was running and used a lot up until I borrowed the battery ignition off of it to get the M running. And that reminds me, I think the Super C is about due for all the oil changes. In the hydraulics, air cleaner, engine, rear end/transmission, and all the gear cases. And new tires. And new paint job. And greasing/oiling. And yes, I did use the roofing cement to glue the coil core back in. It was pretty tight as it was also. But its glued in tight now.

Yep some are tight as is and some are as loose as you know what. But when the get heated and start to vibrate the coils will sometimes turn and the nub wont hit the coil cap right. JON
