I am designing a trailer for my skid loader so I don't have to haul that tiny thing on the 30' goosneck all the time and am wondering if anyone has an on-line source of steel prices. Just kind of curious how much the angle and channel iron will run me before I get too far into the design process. I hate calling the local shop and bugging them if I can find out online, even a ball-park figure.

I may be missing something here. I see these trailers for sale a lot . Some home made, some just Older.... They can be bought with dual axles and for around $700 . May need a little wiring done and maybe some tires... Can you actually build one for less than that these days ? I just cant imagine you can ?? Please share the rough cost with me on a project like this . Thans Guys ...

Brent , Where in IA ? Check with the salvage yards . Used steel is just as good and a lot cheaper than new . If they try and charge you a surtax just laugh at em and leave . That's only on new steel as far as I know . Our local salvage sells it by the pound . You may end up sandblasting the trailer before you paint it though . But I'd do that with new steel too . If you have it designed on paper then you should already have a materials list so just take that with you . Buy it in 20' sticks and cut it yourself . If the shop you are dealing with treat's it as though you're bugging them then I'd find a new source , it's their loss , because that's why they're in business . I know you've probably done things like this , I'm just assuming you haven't . Good luck ! ...Randy

Here in NY they have a bunch of school projects and they throw away all the steel in the dumtsters. I would look for a shop or a building site that has used it and get there left overs at scrap price. just a thought JON

I've priced steel stock supplies on line just to have around for projects, and the prices usually aren't much better than locally, and the shipping will absolutely kill ya. Just ain't even worth it unless it is specialty items or something. Harley
