He needs to clean the engine block where the cylinder head was removed thoroughly and the head too if it needs it. He should use a new head gasket and torque it with a torque wrench in steps. He needs to start in the center of the head and tighten in both directions using a ratchet until just snug, then start torquing to 50
ft-lbs still going in both directions. Then increase the torque to 70 ft-lbs, then 90 ft-lbs
until he reaches 110 ft-lbs.

After he completes the head installation he needs to install the rocker arms for the valves. The valves need to be adjusted for clearance. Set the
valve clearance at .020" cold. Before he adjusts these valves he needs to bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Both of these valves should now be closed on No1 cylinder. Counting
from the front of the engine near the radiator you can now adjust valves 1,2,3 & 5. Rotate the engine until No4 piston is at TDC and adjust 4, 6,
7 & 8. He needs to hold a thumb over the plug holes until he feels compression pushing against his thumb, then he will know he's on the compression stroke. When he's at No1 or No4 TDC
the rotor should point to No1 and to No4 when one of these pistons is at TDC. Hal
