Farmall M Belly Pump Oil Q's

Hello everyone. What does everyne use for the oil in the belly pumps? I know you were susposed to use 30weight but I would think that would pose a problem if use had to use other hydraulic items. Currently I have a PTO pump running my loader with universal hydraulic oil. I have since bought a belly pump for the M since mine didn't have one and I plan to use the loader off the belly pump instead of the PTO to free up the PTO. I have heard that regular hydraulic oil is too thin for belly pumps. But wouldn't mixing oil be bad?

Also for anyone that has a belly pump could you tell me what all the ports on the pump are for. Incoming / outgoing, etc. Thanks

Mark

All the ports (two on left, one on right are hooked together inside and apply pressure when the control rod is pulled out, hold pressure when the rod is hooked on the little tab on the rod, and releases pressure back into the liftall when pushed in all the way.

The rear port on the left was to be used with a restrictor to allow sequential lowering of equipment. (almost none have a restrictor, it is a fitting on the elbow)

The pressure is between 600, and 11-1200 psi.

I have to disagree on the sequential lowering. The two ball valves on the belly pump valve body are actuated by a rocker lever and will let the front of a cultivator down first and raise the back last if everything is working right.

There is also a "hold at last position" where the unit will let the cultivator (or other cylinder) down till it stops then hold it there instead of letting it down farther. It is aggravating on my haybine if I let it down on a terrace and don't get the lever pushed in past the last stop.

I drove an H with front and rear cultivators with the delay valve. Seems it worked sometimes and sometimes not. I think we gave up on it. I don't know if I knew about the "hold at last position" feature. I would "bump" it down by pushing the rod forward and then back to the neutral position, same way with raising it. Did that only when I did not have the depth set right with the adjustments/levers on the cultivator itself, or because of varying soil conditions; but I do remember that sometimes the cultivator would not drop all the way until I pushed again (if I remember right), been 50 years, can't remember what I did this morning. Perhaps I had found the last position thing and didn't realize it until now--too late.

I used HyTran in my belly pump and had plenty of pressure. The manual says 30 weight non-detergent because that was all they had back then. Better oils have been invented. Use whatever hydraulic fluid you prefer.

So is that Hytran just the fluid made for transmissions and hydraulics? How is it different that universal fluid?

It comes in a CNH bucket and costs more.
