Thank you all for the information about spark advance. It cleared up a number of points that I"ve never been sure about.
I forgot to mention that the distributor unit came off a Super A and that the H has the low compression kerosene head on it. Never gave any thought about the H having higher engine revs than SA when I fitted the distributor to it and the difference in spark timing.
What has brought me to raise this subject is the tractor was put on a dynamometer a few weeks ago and only turned out 21 hp on the PTO, whereas about 10 years ago when it had the mag. and before new rings were fitted, it was 26 hp. One more question, is there any way of comparing the PTO hp with the Belt hp originally measured at the Nebraska Tests ?
Thanks in advance.
Sid.

Thanks Jim. I"ll check over the advance mechanism to ensure it is OK and then follow your advice.
Sid.

While on the dyno, advance the dist., and adjust the carb incrementally till it produces the most power W/O spark knock (use the fuel you will use normally, and have it warmed up) If it still starts nicely and does not back against the starter, you are good. JimN
