A rebuild?

My A really starts to smoke "black" when it warms up after some lengthy mowing sessions. I was thinking that it most likely needs new rings... However, I have never performed such a rebuild and was wondering what documentation (manual, etc) best describes how to perform this "operation".

Ive heard the "video" is not detailed enough. Is Binder books the best bet to go with??

I'm all for getting my hands dirty, but I dont want to perform work thats not going to help the cause? What Im afraid of is when I have it torn apart that I may overlook something thats the real cause of the problem (valves maybe ??).

Any thoughts etc. would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks... this is a great site!

SO a little black smoke when was the last time you changed plugs? Just dont get nervous if it runs good and starts and must not use any oil or you would have said. Engine is probably good for another 20 or so yrs mowing grass.

Thanks for the input. Where do I get good documentation regarding carb adjustment, rebuild, etc. ??

Sounds more like an over-active carb. Do the compression check thing first to determine the need for an overhaul. If it dosen't knock and the compression is good, you probably don't need to do an overhaul.

Whoa! Slow down there,

That black smoke is caused from over-fueling and not by a bad engine. Adjust or repair yer carburetor.
