Hello everyone, I have a 1950M. What options do I have for live hydraulics? Is there a way to hook something to the front fan belt for the live power, if so what and where to get one. Also can I get a super M pump and it would fit on my M? I think I read somewhere that after a certian serial number the SM pumps would work. Also is there other pumps from other farmalls that are the same?

I should of bought a different tractor with it but the price was good and really never thought about how nice it is until after the fact.

Thanks
Mark

Belt drive pump? Char-Lynn, (now Eaton?) had a kit for mounting pump on M- had brackets, pulleys, belt, etc, was used mostly for their power steering, but noted as usable for lift cylinder instead. Couple previous postings maybe in archive about adapting GM power steering pump to H and M for use as live power. Western snow plow equipment pump with large capacity used on a tractor with plow, not sure if M. Massey-Ferguson optional pump for loader noted as available at one time for IHC- this was through loader mfg. Check back archives if you can. RN.

Several options there are belt driven systems that can work pretty well. Modifying the M you have with the front cover and distributor timing gear from a later 51 and newer (i think) will allow the use of the live pump for a SM through 450 (I believe)
This is a diagram for using the belly pump for two way nonlive hyd.

Janicholson, Do you plug the rest of the outlet on the belly pump? We have a belly pump that we are going to hook up sometime. Would really like a live pump though.

I think the belly pump has like 4 ports on it. 2 on one side, 1 on the other, and one in the bottom. Can't you run the return to the bottom of the belly pump?

Sorry for the delay answer, Ive been buisy
The answer is yes two of the three outlets need to be plugged. The left side outlets are connected internally to the right one. The rear outlet was used (with a restrictor) to cause a sequenced lowering , or raising of an implement like cultivators so the front came up, then the rear. Then the front would enter the soil, then the rear.
Not needed for the putpose indicated in the diagram.
The reason I indicated a T at the top is because I feel that putting the return into the bottom stris up particles that can collect there, and a T put in that spot can be bumped into breaking it off.
It is not wrong to do it though. There is no filter on a Lift-all if you want to use one, put it in the return line to the resivoir, and make sure it is rated for about 9 gpm. Thanks for asking,
JimN
