The oil filter appears to block the discharge port in the filter mounting base. How does the oil get into the filter if the filter does not have a hole? The old filter has some ribs on the bottom. The new filter has a flat bottom. Neither appear designed to allow oil to get out of the discharge port.
Should I convert to a spin-on filter? or retain the older element type? This Model A engine uses the tall element filter.

Our A is leaking at the copper washer atop the oil filter bell cover, replaced it , but I don't think it was right, make sure it doesn't loose oil there. I'd Keep the old one on there...

If yours is the tall one those were used in the early days. The oil comes up thru the bolt that holds the filter and steel shell in place. There is a hole in the bottom of the long bolt in the center and then another one up in the sidewall the oil comes thru the hole in the stud and out thru the filter then down into the pan. Check to see that the holes are not plugged.

Napa should have a filter cartridge; if there's a number on the old cartridge any auto parts store can cross-reference it. Hal
