Farmall Cub stalls when warmed up

I own a Farmall Cub model F. I'm experiencing two problems which I don't believe are related.
1. The tractor stalls after running about 20 min. Starts fine, runs smooth but after 20 min it begins to run rough and soon sputters to a stall. It will not restart immediately, but after a half hour or so it will start right up and run for another 20 min. I thought it was the valves so I had a valve job done, but the problem persists.

2. The governor does not kick in under load, though the throttle works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

I like the comments below, and would add that feeling the coil just after it dies will pinpoint it as the cause. If it is so hot that you cannot keep your hand on it, replace it.

The second it quits, the center distributor cap wire, and hold it (with well insulated pliers) about 1/4" away from the block. Try to start the engine (neutral and brakes on) If no spark, coil or mag issues. Magman is the Mag answer.

Sound like it could be the coil or Fuel . What does it have a Mag or distributor? If you need anything you can go to www.farmallmagneto.com and I will be glad to help. JON

It sounds like the coil, but I would make sure your gas line isn't plugged. Hal

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Loosen the cap on the fuel tank and see what happens. The air bleed hole can easily get blocked. Especially if the cap is painted during a paint job.

My guess also is the coil is going bad on you. As far as the govanor start it up and by hand try to open up the gov, does it puch back when you do so. If not you probably have a bad gov also. The throttle is a fuction of the gov. so its also not working right or its hooked up wrong some how which I have seen more then once. Some one may have hooked up the carb/gov rods wrong at some point

Sounds like you have a bad coil. They will do that, work OK until warmed up, then sputter and die. Wait awhile to cool down, crank back up and the same thing happens.
