WD9 won't run on diesel

I pull started this tractor on diesel and drove it on the trailer. After that I used the starter to start it and drive it off. After a new head gasket and carb rebuild it now runs on gas(good) and not diesel. Is it possible that I replaced the decompression valve linkage backwards? Dosn't it only work one way? Right now if I pull it all I get is a facefull of raw fuel via the new chrome stack.
Soon I will make time to pull the valve cover to make sure of linkage placement.
thanks in advance.

Did you get that that WD-9 from East of Guymon? I was out there working for the railroad this winter and I saw a nice looking WD-9 there. Anywas PSU kid, I hope you get it going strong. I would love to have a 9.

No, but I know the one you're talking about. I haven't stopped to look at it but it looks from the road to be in real nice shape. Mine is in Goodwell.

Those decompression linkages are notoriously touchy, so yeah, check that first.

Since you're getting fuel out the stack(I assume diesel) it's likely you have everything bled out good. If you open the throttle a bit while running on gas then crack the bleeders on the injectors you get good fuel, right? Must be not sealing the cylinders when you switch over from gas. When you pull your valve cover, make sure that when it's on the diesel side there's clearance between the starting valves and the cam that operates them. Also make sure none of the starting valves are hung open. Might not hurt to double check valve clearance on all the valves while you have it off.

A quick check to see if anything basic's wrong would be to pull the coil wire and crank it over in the gas mode. Then, while cranking, switch it to diesel. The extra compression should slow down the cranking speed by quite a bit.

Hey thanks, I'll check the valves next time I get to the tractor shop(very busy building a corn planter). Going to school here at Panhandle State and working for a large farm keeps me pretty busy. But it helps that my boss is the President of the local antique power club in Guymon. Thanks again for the advice, hope it works. This is my 2nd tractor, I also have a 46' W9. And I'm only 24 years old, haha:)
