Super M carburator

Ok fellas I am going to the experts. I have , what I was told ,is a 1952 Super M. The name plate says SM serial number F48641 DJ. I want to order a new (rebuilt ) carb for it. From this site. I just want to make sure the one listed in the parts section is the correct one. I have rebuilt mine once and it is just worn out. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Tallperson

THanks for the info and for the replies. I was looking all over the carb for the numbers. You are all correct. Years of dirt and varnish. Even my wire brush didn"t show numbers yet. My carb just uses too much fuel, and any attempt to lean it out makes it run like dog dirt... Any way thanks again.. Tallperson

Hey Tallguy - Find the small (approx 1/2" diameter) brass disc riveted to the upper half of your existing carburetor. Stamped into the disk will be the carb's IHC part number. (You will probably have to scrape years of dirt and fuel varnish from the carb before you'll see it.) Part number will be in this format: 356 065 R92 (will NOT be this exact number - this example happens to be from a Super H...)

On the top of the carb there is a small, round brass tag. On this tag is the number of your carburetor. You need to verify that the number on your tag is the same number as that on the rebuilt carb, and it WILL be a rebuilt carb. There are NO new carbs. Also, for what it is worth to you, there is no such thing as a totally worn out carb. If you purchase the correct rebuild kit, it will include ALL the parts which normally wear out, and if you do a good job of thoroughly cleaning and adjusting, your carb will be every bit as good as it was when new.

You can look up the year of manufacture for your tractor in the "Serial Numbers" link on the left of this page.

48641 is a 1953, and a late 1953 at that.

You can trust this site. If the site says that the carburetor is for a Super M, then it is for a Super M. If there are no "for serial numbers after XXXXX," then there are no special serial number breaks. Besides, there was only ever one carburetor made for the Super M.
