adding a red

IH folks, I have a green tractor but recently brought home a red H. It runs fine - for 20 seconds. There is a good stream of gas from the tank to the carb, so do you think I have a float problem? Thanks for your help.

I just had the same problem with my Super H. I went to plow snow the last big snow storm we had a few weeks ago. Started the tractor, drove it 20 feet out of the shed and it died. Then it started to snow again of course. Finally got it backed into the shed in 20 second bursts after waiting five minutes between starts. First I thought it was gas line freeze. I took the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and the bowl empted, then just dripped a little. I took off the gas line at the carb and gas came out in a full stream. I took out the screen on the fitting going into the carb and it was clean. Finally I connected the fuel line back up, turned on the gas, hit the side of the carb with a wrench and gas started flowing out the bottom plug. All I can figure out is after the tractor set for over three months, for some reason the flow stuck up. It ran fine after that. Roger

There's also a screen between the fuel line and the carb, tucked into the inlet of the carb.

Take the screen out of the sediment bowl(s) and check for gunk up above where the screen sets. I cleaned the bowls and screenes and still had the problem, then checked again and found that area was plugged up. Good luck

When it quits, check for spark at the plugs. Try to see if problem is fuel or electrical related.

Trash can get stuck above the seat at the inlet preventing full flow into the carb bowl. Float drop could also be restricted.

That's kinda the way they are on initial startup.

Gotta feather that choke for a little while after they start to get 'em to level out.

Your carburetor may need cleaning. Could be gummed up from the gas or dirty. Hal
