I have recently acquired a farmall H from my late grandfather and wanted to do a restoration project on it. my problem is the data plate is not on the tractor for some reason,and i was wondering if anyone knew a quick way to determine the year of this tractor or how i would even go about determining what engine rebuild kit i would need from yesterday's tractors. apparently the S/N determines the engine kit i need.

Anther Place to check would be if it might happen to be an early 1939 would be the topside of the frame rail under the generator. I acquired a M from my grandfather after he passed and it never had a tag. Come to find out it was an early 1939 and some of those never had tags from the factory. Paul

Try dating a girl instead my friend-much more rewarding. You are taking this tractor thing way too seriously.

Another way to get approximate (within year or so) age of tractor is with casting codes. Go to archives at top of page choose keyword search and search for casting codes in Farmall forum. You will find more information on casting codes than you will want to read.

Look on the engine block, in the area where the generator is located, you will find a small flat area. The engine serial number will be stamped there.

Kyle, you had me worried there for a minute. I talk to my tractors but I have never really "dated" one. Then I figured out what you were asking. My mistake. Harley

Yep, I kind of expected to see this one on Jerry Springer from the message header.

Harley, I'm with you. I had the same first impression. Now, I have to admit, I may have given my Super M a gentle pat now and then, but we have YET to go to a movie. ;-}
