Hey guys, waiting for my manual and trying to do some pre mowing maintenance. I was wondering what grade of engine oil to use and how many quarts. Also i see a fill plug to the left of the gear selector and one above the pto shaft. Are these separate areas for lube and what type and how much should i use? I assume the one near the gear selector is for the trans. thanks again guys

So these two areas require different amounts of fluid or they are joined together as one? Im refering to the trans and the pto. thanks

They share the same fluid (1 system). When you drain the tranny though, some of the old fluid will be held in the PTO housing. So fill thru trans. plug, but drain out of both to get all the old oil out.

I've got the book right here. Engine Oil- 5 qt.,above 80 use SAE-30 80 to 32 use SAE-20 below 32 use SAE-10 5 Quarts. I like to go with a SAE20-50 for summer use unless the engine is new and tight. Trans use SAE-80 for all temp ranges. Volume changes with acc. PTO & Belt takes 5 quarts, PTO only uses 4.5 quarts, no add ons uses 4 quarts. Fill from the plug on the platform. The plug on the PTO is only good for decoration, but if you drain the tranny, pull the dreain plugs under her belly, AND the PTO. Also for good luck add at least 1 quart of LUCAS OIL.

I think the engine holds 6 qt. You open the top pitcock on the left side the oil pan & fill til oil comes out there.

The two plugs, one next to the shifter and the other over the PTO are actually the same cavity. The one over the PTO just prelubes those gears when you change the oil in the tranny. There is a plug on the left side the transmission case, partly hidden by the brake rod. Fill the tranny til oil comes out there. I use regular 90 wt.
