The neighbor just got his Block and his head back the crank and cam is at the machine shop, know he wants to get a overhaul kit for it. Some people put Super M sleeves and pistions in M blocks, what has to be done to make this work? Can you just order a kit for a super M and it fits? The block is still it standard bore. any info would be great. Justin

What MOST people refer to when they say that is the overbore kit.A standard M has 3 7/8 sleeves,a standard Super M has 4".There are overbore kits that allow you to use 4" sleeves in a standard M,but they arent Super M sleeves. To use the overbore kit you just simply relace the sleeves with those from the overbore kit, not those from a Super M.

No You will need tp have the block bored to acept the SM pistons. However you can get an over bore kit That will in crease it from 3 and 7/8 to 4" I believe I believe the SM is 4and 1/8" I have heard of taking out the sleeves and running a different motor piston in a straight M block You will need to do something with the head gasket where the sleeve sealed at the top. Bore the M block to 4.25, after you have had it checked for cracks first,, Then you cut the sleeve flange down to the M flange specs. That will allow you to run 450 sleeves with a 4.125 bore. 450 head gasket, and you have a hidden 281 in a 248 block! You gotta watch the older M blocks, best advice would be to remove the water plate on the side of the block, if the outside of the bores look flaky rusty, find a better block that isnt faling apart from the outside in. 6.125 stroke can be used with a bit of grinding.
