Tach for 350 Utility

My 350 Utility has a tach that is in bad shape, so I bought a new tach and cable. I see I also need the gear drive assembly. Where the gear drive is supposed to go into the distributor housing, there is just a plate covering the hole. I'm guessing that at some point the tach quit working and rather than fix it, the owner at the time just pulled out the cable and gear and covered the hole.

It is a C175 gas engine. It looks like the gear drive for the diesel engine is quite a bit different.

I have a parts catalog, and it looks like I need the 2 pcs of the gear assembly, plate for the cable to go through, and a gasket. I plan on calling my dealer tomorrow to see if parts are available new.

My questions for you are:

1) Does anyone know if the gear drive parts are available new, and if so, how much it will run me?

2) Is there anything special to keep in mind when installing a new gear drive assembly?

3) Do any of you have a working used gear drive assembly, or know where I can get one?

Thanks very much for any help you can give me.

Joe

Availiable at your local Case/IH dealer. Cost about close to $45. I bought one for my 350u a couple of months ago.Just remember to grease it up and make sure it meshes with the gears ok. Nice and free and smooth. The tach I took off my 350u looked like it came off the R.M.S Titanic.
